In 2008 CREATE DESIGN ™ was fortunate to conceptualise, and design the brand and the corporate identity for The Rex hotel. The Rex is a new hotel in Knysna which is part of the Thee Cities Group.

We decided to create a flamboyant over the top illustration to communicate the brands objective. Two cheeky loeries, a halo, a crown and a set of scarlet royal beaded jewels later, we had arrived at our perfect solution for the brand. The brand is quirky and fun and plays on the many local tales of George Rex himself. George Rex is a historical character who founded the town of Knysna in the Western Cape and played a key role in its development. It has often been said that George Rex was the son of King George III. Locals believed that he had been banished to the Cape, granted large tracts of land, and was forbidden to marry, a story with many elaborate embellishments, with varying degrees of detail.

Emblazoned across the entrance on an enormous sign the brand of The Rex will lure you into the fabulous new hotel. CREATE DESIGN ™ have continued to work for the The Rex & The Three Cities Group on various different projects, including signage, brochures, photography branding and corporate identity to a strong online presence.
